The ClimASed consortium just had its 3rd Project Partner Meeting at Munster Technological University, bringing together partner experts. The two-day event focused on reviewing progress, sharing knowledge, and coordinating next steps for climate-resilient sediment management in the region’s major river basins. Between the meetings and work sessions, we also visited the flood defence project in the city center.
What are the key outcomes of this meeting?
- All partners are developing harmonized sediment management strategies and action plans for the Scheldt, Main, and Shannon rivers. The team is integrating climate change scenarios and leveraging both AI and expert review to analyze over 85 policy documents, ensuring robust and actionable outcomes.
- Pilot actions are underway at ten sites, addressing five core challenges: erosion, sediment transport, sediment budget, sediment quality, and habitat/ecology. Working groups are actively exchanging best practices in modelling, monitoring, and data management.
- The capacity-building program has launched a joint training scheme for young professionals and university lecturers. This initiative aims to foster future leaders in climate-resilient sediment management, with training materials and sessions to be made available online for lasting impact.
Looking forward
Thanks to all partners efforts we are well on our way to building a more resilient future for our rivers and communities. In the coming months we will see continued technical workshops, governance sessions, and advisory committee meetings to drive progress. Next steps will include validating joint definitions, deepening document reviews, and expanding training and outreach activities.
